The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute is located on the Health Sciences Campus, adjacent to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the Carilion Clinic outpatient building, in Roanoke, Va.

Purpose-Built Space

The School of Medicine building has been specifically designed around the patient-centered curriculum. Students have a truly dedicated learning environment that includes:

• Fourteen dedicated team rooms with individual storage and study space
• Ten Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) rooms
• An Anatomy/Histology/Pathology (AHP) Lab
• A medical library with study space and small conference rooms
• A media center
• Specially equipped symposium rooms
• A large lecture hall
• Student lounge, recreation and wellness space

The Road to Transformation

VTCSOM students will have the rare opportunity to take part in Carilion Clinic’s metamorphosis from major healthcare provider into a healthcare clinic that focuses on patient care, education and research. The clinic model is led by physicians, utilizes a team-based approach to care for patients, improves quality and access to care, and cuts costs. The ultimate goal of Carilion Clinic’s new organization is to provide the best possible health outcome and healthcare experience for each patient.

Medical education is critical component of the clinic strategy as it ensures the ability to care for future generations. VTCSOM students are viewed as an integral part of a new culture of excellence and innovation, where patients come first.
